In recent years pelleted fish feed is becoming popular and these pelleted fish feed are commonly extruded by the fish feed extruder machine. There are dry and moist fish feed pellets. The former is more popular and the major ingredients are fishmeal made from grinding baked trash fish, fish oil, vitamins and binder. They are extruded and puffed up to produce dry pellets. Moist pellet feed is made up of fishmeal, trash fish, vitamins and binder. Pelleted fish feed is suitable for both freshwater and marine species.

Working Principles of Dry Type small dog food extruder
Extruder has been used since 1960’s to treat the soybean meal in U.S.A. Extrusion means to cook the mix of ingredients under temperature, moisture and pressure in the fish feed extruder. Moisture provides lubrication for compression and extrusion and in the presence of heat causes some gelatinization of raw starch present on the surface of vegetative ingredients, resulting in adhesion. Within 20 seconds of entering the pellet mill, feed goes from an air-dry (about 10-12 percent moisture) condition at ambient temperature, to 15-16 percent moisture at 80-90°C. During subsequent compression and extrusion of holes in the die mold, friction increases feed temperature to nearly 92°C. Pellets are discharged onto a screen belt of a horizontal tunnel drier and the moisture content can be dried to below 13 percent, or into a vertical screened hopper to be air-cooled within 10 minutes to the temperature slightly above ambient temperatures.
Fish Feed Pelletizing Process
The pelleting process includes the following steps:
1. The mixed feed materials are fed into the fish feed extruder;
2. The screw presses the material;
3. Turning screw in the barrel causes a thermal energy (temperature is 110-130 °C);
4. Finally, we have cooked and well treated fish feed pellets.

The Maintenance and Conservation of Dry Type small dog food extruder
Frequent and routine maintenance is the best way to keep a machine in top condition and prevent costly issues occurrence over the long term. Dry type fish feed extruder proper maintenance will ensure reliable functionality and high efficiency.
1. Add grease on the bearing in the boxes timely. After 500 hours of operation, the operator must change their grease. The proper recommended grease must be added before using the new dry type fish feed extruder. And change the grease after the first 200 hours running of the machine.
2. Add grease on other parts of the machine periodically.
3. Some wearing parts, such as screw and cover, should never be struck with a hard object. Do not stand or place heavy objects on the puffing chamber.
4. Keep the raw materials clean. Never allow any kind of metal or other foreign objects to enter the dry type fish feed machine while in operation.
5. Check the quality of extruded material. Please note the change of wearing parts.
6. If long-term shut down or replacement of extruded materials occurs, materials extruded cavity should be cleaned to prevent caking, mildew or cross contamination of materials.
7. Do not replace all of the wearing parts at the same time. Different parts of the extruder have different wearing rate.
Attentions
1. Our fish feed extruder is of single screw design.
2. The pellets extruded from the fish feed pellet mill is about 80℃ and moisture content is 18%-20%, so you should equip a fish feed pellet dryer and feed pellet cooler if the capacity is more than 500kg/h. For small capacity fish feed pellet plant, the pellets can be dried under the sun.
